End Game |

| Duncan Mounsey
took over the show and began shoveling piles of merchandise that
ringed the stage. That created more excitement than Juan's lame script.
Once out as The Great Juan, the disk jockey, he began a regular air shift to hype the promotion. Massive giveaways continued both on the air and off. ("How would you like to leave this bitter, bitter weather for better, better weather?" cooed one Florida vacation-giveaway promo.) But as the excitement waned, it became clear that Juan was just another promotion-in-the-pan. Assistant Program Director Jim Ramsberg became The Great Juan (though they sounded nothing alike). Juan left the station a month later and resumed life as Dale Kelly at a Pennsylvania radio station. Amazingly, there never was any legal fallout. Maybe they just wanted it all to go away in a single, horrible, |

one-night burnout. Maybe they thought litigation would cost more than it was worth. Or maybe they just quietly acceded to Duncan's force of genius and organization. To see a photo of The Great Juan today, click here.

Epilogue |

| A local
newspaper columnist, Charley Mooney, pieced it together. He got it
(mostly) right in his story
describing the hoax after the Thruway Motel event. (see right--click on

Aftermath It was a limited engagement. One night, and one night only. Snakes for the ladies. Ladies for the men. Hurry! Hurry! |
